This week I’m doing a two-for-one podcast recommendation focusing on security-oriented podcasts.??There are quite a few options to choose from, but only two that I have as part of my regular listening schedule to stay up to date on this important part of the tech world.
The first is another Ken Ray production, The Checklist. A weekly podcast that is done in partnership with SecureMac, Ken focuses on security news that is practical and actionable. He omits all but the most important technical details and goes right for the “what happened,”how it might affect you,” and “what you need to do to protect yourself.”
While this is obviously slanted toward the Mac user, I’m comfortable recommending it to anyone because the threats and practical advice pieces are applicable to pretty much everyone.
The second is a podcast out of Australia, Risky Business. Hosted by CEO and Publisher Patrick Gray, and Technology Editor Adam Boileau, Risky Business is both more general in scope (not just Apple) and digs into both the business-oriented along with some of the technical aspects of hacks, breaches, and compromises. News on the latest security issues mixes with technical background on the issue and details of who in the hacking world is claiming responsibility. The fact that it isn’t U.S. based means that you get a more global discussion. That said, a frequent guest has been Chris Krebs, who served as the first Director of the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA) until recently, which gives you an idea of the quality of the guests who appear on the show.
While these two shows live at opposite ends of the technical spectrum, both pass my “high signal, low noise” test. Depending on your interests and needs try one or better yet, both.
