Since the Apple TV F1 movie and the publicity surrounding Apple’s deal to televise actual F1 racing, I’ve become much more interested in what up to now, at least for me, has been a largely overlooked sport.
If you’re not familiar with the Acquired podcast, it is a a business-oriented show that digs deep (and I mean deep) into the their subject, with episodes always ranging in the multi-hour category.
When I saw their Spring 2026 Episode 1 was focused on Formula 1 I almost skipped it, but figured I’d at least start it and get a little background. What I got was a 4.5 hour F1 history lesson that was fascinating from start to finish. The backstory and evolution is better than pretty much any novel you can name. I now have a better, more informed appreciation of the sport as it is today, as well as some highly entertaining history.
The marathon-length podcasts only work for me when they are both well done and are focused on something that holds my interest. Acquired does this so well, and these 4.5 hours went by fast…a great indication of how good it is. If you have any interest, this is well worth the time.
