The First Thing I Did With My iPhone 17 Pro Max – PROTECT!

Sep 26, 2025

What did you do when you unboxed your new iPhone? Work your way through the set-up? Prepare to migrate from your old phone?

I’m a little obsessed with taking care of my new phones, both because they are expensive but also because I’m looking to next year when I trade it in. So the first thing I do (and did again this year) was to take it out, apply a screen protector, and drop it into a case. Once that’s done I’m good to go.

I’ve been using AmFilm screen protectors for years and this one was no exception. The application method is all but foolproof. A quick screen cleaning procedure and application and in just a very few minutes your front screen is protected with 9H+ Military-Grade Tempered Glass. Two screen protectors come in the box, and as a bonus, there are small circular lens covers that protect those magnificent cameras but don’t affect the photo quality at all.. Unlike similar screen protectors, these are priced (at time of writing) as $9.99.

Next came the Spigen for iPhone 17 Pro Max Ultra Hybrid T MagFit case. While other case manufacturers are still working out the measurements and getting their products to market, Spigen are always among the first to market with a variety of new cases and are very competitively priced. I picked this one because it is MagSafe-compatible and provides full back cover protection. While there are three color options, I went with the matte black since is the closest to my Dark Blue iPhone. While I wait to see what other cases offer what features, my phone is protected from mishaps. Because I haven’t invested a great deal of money, I don’t feel like it is wasted if and when I change to another case…and some years I haven’t found one that I prefer for everyday carry. There are a number of contenders this year, so stay tuned.

Bottom line: for under $30 I have the front, back, and camera lenses protected as I put my new phone through its paces. A very small price to pay to maintain the value of the phone for next year.
