Even though I don’t have my iPhone 16 Pro Max yet (though the pre-order has been completed), my first two accessories have already been ordered and will be waiting when the phone arrives.
A Case
The first is a case. This is an expensive device, and in spite of Apple Care being included as part of the upgrade program, I want to protect it against my own clumsiness and accidents. ??I’m keeping my run of initial Spigen cases going. Spigen always seems to have a nice selection cases ready to go on launch day, at a reasonable price. While not averse to changing cases when others are released, for the last few years, the Spigen has been the case for the life of the phone.
This year I’m going to start with a new model, the Spigen Optik Armor MagFit. It has a siideable camera lens protector, is MagSafe, and provides military-grade drop protection. All that and it only adds 0.19” in depth to the phone. Whether I will find the camera cover annoying is up for grabs, but Iike the idea of protecting those fantastic lenses. A Screen Protector
Yes, I know. The iPhone 16 series sports a new and improved Ceramic Shield that is reportedly 50% “tougher”. It isn’t clear exactly what that means from either a cracking or scratch protection standpoint, but for $10, I can add an extra layer of protection that doesn’t affect the phone’s capabilities in any way.
As I outlined in MacVoices #24215, I’ve been using the AmFilm tempered glass screen protectors for years and they have saved me on more than one occasion. Simple to install, simple to remove (when necessary to replace or to sell the phone), and I never even know it is there unless something bad happens. The amFilm Auto-Alignment OneTouch for iPhone 16 Pro Max [6.9”] will be installed even before the phone goes in the Spigen case. (NOTE: As of this writing, there is a 10% coupon available on Amazon.)
Overkill?
Maybe. As I said above these are expensive devices. They are devices that I really don’t want to be without if repairs are necessary. Perhaps most important, I am on the iPhone Upgrade Program, so will be turning this back in with the next model comes, and I don’t want to have the trade-in rejected because of something that could have easily been avoided.
Proceed according to your wants and needs, but give these two items serious consideration…for your phone’s sake.
