MacNotables #720: Dan Frakes Operates on the Apple TV

Apr 2, 2007 | MacNotables

Dan Frakes
Dan Frakes has been designated the MacNotables Surgeon. His credentials? He started taking apart his new Apple TV right out of the box. Dan discusses the procedures he’s used (so far) and the internal anatomy of the unit. Dan discusses what you need to know about upgrading the Apple TV’s hard drive if you choose to follow in his footsteps, and what the USB port is good for. Plenty of folks have been doing hacking the Apple TV and Dan reports on the results both practical (such as support for more video formats) and the ones done just because they can be. (Why else would you want to run a web server from an Apple TV?). Think all this voids the Apple warranty? Dan talks about why that may not be the case, if you’re very careful.
